September 9th, 1974 Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That the foregoing proposed resolution be amended by inserting the words "and encouraging Aldermen" between the words “residents” and "to" where they appear therein. Carried. The question was then called on the original motion of Aldermen Traboulay and Thompson, as amended: That the Administration be directed to investigate the possibility of allow- ing residents and encouraging Aldermen to participate earlier in the process when amendments are proposed to City By-laws covering major developments in the City. Carried. From the City Clerk, August 28th, 1974, advising that pursuant to instruc- tions of Council at the August 26th, 1974 meeting, a joint meeting of the Plann- ing & Zoning and Industrial Development Committees was unable to resolve the question of what should be the minimum building size in Industrial zones, and sta- ting the understanding that the Planning & Zoning Committee would prefer to see a 1500 square foot minimum while the Industrial Development Committee feels that 1000 square feet is the appropriate figure. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That the "City of Port Coquitlam Zoning By-law, 1969, No. 918" incorporate therein an amendment to provide that the minimum building size in Industrial (M) Zones be set at 1,500 square feet. Carried. Alderman Laking voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, a discussion ensued, and the following amendment was proposed: Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That the foregoing proposed resolution be amended by striking out the figure "7 500" where it appears therein and inserting the figure "7,000" in its place. Aldermen Laking and Traboulay voted in favour of the resolution. Prior to defeat of the foregoing proposed amending resolution, a brief dis- cussion ensued, and Alderman Laking reiterated the comments he made at the pre- vious Council meeting that banks will not finance a building of 1,500 square feet when only a 1,000 square foot building is required. Alderman Mabbett commented that smaller businesses should be accommodated in the manv leasehold buildings and larger industries encouraged to develop the limited number of acreages in the Industrial area. Alderman Traboulay pointed out that adjacent municipalities are going for the 1,000 square foot minimum building size in Industrial zones; City Clerk re minimum bldg.size- Industrial zones
