ay eth fatten By Foren, LIVABILE REGION/TRANSPORT 2021 STUDY MARCH 5/94 WORKSHOP NOTES Coquitlam River is Green Zone in LRP - Recreational Zone, yet Lincoln Bridge Concept is "shown". -Existing DCC Bylaw was done a year ago - has Lincoln Bridge. Will review DCC B/L and perhaps relocate it. How much hope do we have that this LRP will be reality - did the old plan impact on the City - are the elements achieved? -We have worked towards complete communities -CPR moved out to Port Coquitlam - decentralize (i.e. B.C. Tel) There is now raore concern about environment, Douglas Island and Colony Farm Why would people want to live in an 82,000 population Port Coquitlam and 52,000 Port Moody etc. -No long commute, participate in local events -Cooperation between Municipalities -If we don't adopt LRP, Province may bring down legislation Concept of a "No Growth" community - such as Monterey, California - is this applicable? -What will happen is the surrounding areas will absorb growth and Monterey, w" have pains of a large population but no tax base. No mention of health care - yet we are having an aging population - looking at specialized health care because of costs. Why is it more difficult to afford new facilities and services when we have a growing population every year? Dollars are being eaten away at the Regional level to help recycling, filtration, sewage disposal etc. Low density population vs high density population. -People would rather be out in low density areas and work in PoCo, for instance. -Not workable if we have 6 lanes coming in and don't have 6 lanes going through Some of problems: PoCo is in the middle - we get traffic, double population, no improvements to Lougheed. No guarantee of amenities, school facilities, etc. that come from doubling the population.
