Unionists gathered outside the Van-
couver warehouse of Slade and
Stewart May 17 for a rally to make
one year of the fight against the
lockout of members of the Retail-
Wholesale Union by the U.S.-owned
food wholesaler. B.C. Federation of
Labor first vice-president Art Grunt-
man declared the Fed’s continued
support for the workers, while Van-
couver and District Labor Council
secretary Frank Kennedy called for
legislation to ban scabbing. Also
addressing the rally were past B.C.
Teachers Federation president Larry
Kuehn, NDP MLA Colin Gabel-
mann, Dan Cole of the Longshore-
men’s union, Colin Kelly of the Inde-
pendent Canadian Transit Union,
Carpenters Union president Bill
Zander and the RWU’s John Squire.
