Request for Funding From Councils

Thie is further to previous memo this caption dated 9 HAR 77.
Since that meno, certain aspects have influenced the financial requirements
of Crime Prevention Unit this year.

These are those changes Iisted in the sare order.
SCHOGL LIASON PROGRAM TOTAL from $900.00 to $3,515.00

The ywegram has benefited from gifts by various segments of the
community in the form of handouts. Amory theee are the Bank of Commerce,
B.C. Tel and R.C.MLP. Ottawa.

Our requirements for visual aida in the form of 16 om. fiins
have been clarified. The following films have been carefully selected
and ve anticipate them to meet our needs for some time.

They are as follows:

"Doing it Wrong COST $200.00

The film has auch impact; raises many questions;
leaves the discussion of {seuee to the viewers. Telle
a disturbing story bluntly, does not preach or provide
an official answer, It is an excellent tool for use in
youth discusafon groups.

'The Clubhouse’ cost $167.00
A short film on the eubject of Vandalism.

A very excellant film for use with younger grades
2-4 on the subject of vandalisu. Serves as a good

springboard for an officer's classroom presentation on
this subject.

"So I Took Itt - Anti Shoplifting.

*Bicycles Are Beautiful! Cost § 98.06
4 film on cycling safety,

. A very comprehenaive film on the eubject of cycling
safety and maintenance. Ie used here in conjunction with
Cycling Safety Rally's, inepections and go on. Narrated

by Bill Cosby the flim is very entertaining as well as
educational. Film is sponsored by McDonsids the Haaburger
chain who undertook production coste ae a community service.
"Red Light - Green Light! cost $260.00

A ELlw for elementary school age children on meeting
strangers, good end not oo good. A child Safety Fil.

A very good film on the subject of child molesting
or for use in progracmes aimed at that particular offences
Pilm {6 aimed at grades ~ 2 through 4 or 5, but no higher.
A very useful film for use in the BLOCK PARENT programe.

6 ‘Anti Rape’ cost $490.00 estimated
To be selected.

A fund of $100.00 fe still required for miscellancous printing and
film repair. This brings the total School Liason Budget to

$2,515.00.

2. ANTI SHOPLIFTING PROGRAH TOTAL fream $900.00 to 0

It 4a regrettable, but the work load presently experienced by
€.P.U. forces the cutting of the program for this year. Should there be a
manpower increase in the future, it will no doubt be revived.

3. BLOCK PARENTS , TOTAL from $446.00 to $440.00

The financial requirements for the Bloc’: Parent Prograa remain
as before. : .

4& NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH = (NW) TOTAL from $5,000.00 to $3,060.00

G.P.U. has received a contribution from the B.C. Police Comriasion
of 6,000 N.W. booklets; 30,000 small decals and 15,000 large decals. This
by no means negates the need for funding in this area, but does reduce the
anticipsted cost considerably. We still require on estimated $18,000 NW.
books and 36,009 decals.

7. ‘Neighbourhood Watch! cost $256.00
A crime preventicn film specifically for residential
burglary programmes. Excellent for home presentations to
small groups of neighbours by uniformed Police officer.

The {iim necessary for s successful “Neighbourhood Wetch™
Programse. Used in private homes to saall groups of neighbours.
Is more guited to reaidente of private homes as opzosed to
apartments, but does do e good job for either. Due to their
steady use of it, it {6 not feasible to borrow it.

This takes the tote] C.P.U. budget for this year from .
$7,260.00 to $4,955.00.
