THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM B. Kirk, June 17, City Administrator F.E. Peters., P. Eng., City. Engineer SUBJECT: Emergency Sprinkling Regulations RECOMMENDATION: That the Engineer be authorized to impose emergency sprinkling regulations if water pressure and supply conditions deteriorate due to a long, dry summer. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: At the moment our water system is holding. up to the demand al:‘1ough there are periods when water pressures are low throughout the City. As you know, we have had a long, dry spell and there is no way of knowing whether this dry spell will continue. We anticipate that if it does continue for any length, our water supply system in certain areas may be put to a severe strain. Rather than singling out any specific areas, it would be fairer to impose the same emergency restrictions on everybody in the City. The emergency restrictions which we would anticipate would be along the lines of a complete prohibition of lawn sprinkling between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. This would cover the time of peak water use. The reason for bringing this recommendation to Council at this time is so that we can react quickly if necessary-. We would obviously not take such action unless it was absolutely necessary. Lh F.E.
