Port Coquitlam, B.C. The Mayor and Council, . : Port Coquitlam City Hall, i Dear Sirss Cen At the secant the Coquitlam snd S. Leggatt, thuiriiean of the Port Coquitlam Health Committee presented ihe views of his group on the propesed hoasoital. Mr Leggatt stated that "there was no need for any acute care beds to be built in this area". As the Port Coquitlam appointee to the hospital board, my views are in bpposition to those of Mr. Lerzait and Council shoild be ‘ advised of them. ‘There is a need for some kind of hospital facility in this area to serve the health care needs of our citizens. Not only do the waiting lists for alective surgery at New Westminster hospitals and the growing population figures indicute this 4s so, but the lack of outpatient services (psychiatric day care, etc.) and the lack of some inpatient nervi.ces (acute psychiatric beds) available to our citisens are evidence of this need. In view of this situation, I believe most people in our community want to have such services made available to them in their own srea. ra} Di 1715 Oughton DY oe Port Coquitlam, 3.C. While it would of course, be one of the factors that the Board would consider when determining its policy, such matters as the duplication and dovetailing of expensive seyvices are equally important.
