RECOMMENDATION:

That City Council direct the Treasurer's Office to include
$2,000 in Provisional Budget for Economic Development.

BACKGROUND:

The Chamber of Commerce made a presentation to City Council at
the meeting of January 4Th proposing the City participate in
production of a cammunity promotion brochure. The Chamber
delegation was referred To Council's Economic Development
Committee to review if their proposal fits in with the City's
Economic Development Programme. .

COMMENTS:

The Chamber of Commerce presented their brochure and
distribution campaign to the Economic Development Committee
Meeting of January 20th. What the Chamber propose to do is to
produce 50,000 copies of a brochure, most of which are to be
distributed to information centres outside the lower mainiand.
Their proposal for financing this project calls for
participation by three municipalities and contribution by

businesses that are shown on a map In the brochure.

In presenting the value of this project to the City, the
Chamber delegation stressed their experience with local
residents and businesses using their previous material in
mailings to visitors and contacts. They indicated in their
presentation the model being followed for the layout and text
