Mayor and Council DATE: February 8, 1974 FROM: L.D. Pollock City Administrator RE: Review of Fire Service The Canadian Underwriters do periodic inspections and reviews of fire defences in municipalities for their member insurance companies. These reviews become the basis for establishing fire insurance rates. In our review of fire defences resulting from discussions with Coquitlam on joint fire protection we were in touch with the underwriters and it was suggested that a review be carried out to bring their records up to date, The last review by the underwriters was done about ten years ago and although fire insurance rates have been revised with the establishment of a full time fire department there has been no official review by this body. There is no cost attached to this type of study as it is carried out mainly for the information of the insurance companies, however, the review does provide certain valuable information for the City as they look at the water distribution system as weil as the structure of the fire department, manpower, fire hall location etc. The Association could carry this study out in the ~ fall of this year. I would recommend to Council that we request the Canadian Underwriters Associ—- ation to carry out a review of the City's fire defences at their convenience and provide us with a copy of their report.
