SUBJECT: Business License Fee ~ Tax Buyer

RECOMMENDATION:

That the category "Tax Buyer" be eliminated from our business license

EACKGROUND & COMMENTS:

This category was established in 1976 or 1977 and now carries a license
fee of $465.00 per year. The fee was set high to discourage this type of
business, however since then, federal government regulations have been
put into effect to control the activities of the tax buyers.

License fees charged for tax buyers in other municipaliites are as follows:

Burnaby $ 105 Vancouver $46

New Westminster $ 105 Richmond $48
Surrey $§ 95 Caquitiam $80

Port Moody $1,150 Delta $65

If we eliminate this category the tax buyers in Port. Coquitlam will pay $88
plus $10 per employee over two, for their business license.
