i | i } | U MUL 2 2 1974 TO: Mayor and Council DATE: July 11, 1974 FROM: Building and Protection Committee RE: Ambulance Service ‘It is the recommendation of the Building and Protection Committee that in studying the attached reports of the Fire Chief dated July 10, 1974 and the City Administrator dated July 2, 1974 be accepted and that we notify the Provincial Government that we are not satisfied with their proposal for this area. . , 1. We feel that our present emergency vehicles continuing as ambulances and a necessary service to the community will, quite possibly, cause a conflict between the new Provincial Ambulance limited service and our present Fire Department employees. , 2. We feel quite strongly that with the large number of calls per year in our City (1973 - 418 calis) this could withstand a cost benefit analysis which we feel, along with the immediate surrounding area bounded by Ranch Park area of the District of Coquitlam on the west, Pitt River Bridge on the east, Burke Mountain to the north and the Fraser River south of Mary Hill on the ‘south, would justify a fill time ambulance service’ situated at the Port Coquitlam Central Fire Hall. The reasoning for this recommendation is that we feel we will end vp with a double standard for our area, which is not acceptable; In comparison to what . Vancouver, New Westminster and Burnaby wil” receive. As the Fire Chief's report states we would, of course, maintain our inhalator service. Alderman E.W. Mabbett, Chairman. EWM:da attachments
