NOUVELLES DES ASSOCIATION DES PARENTS (APE) NorRTH VANCOUVER The French Country Gourmet Fair was organized under the auspices of several parents of André-Piolat school, to raise funds and increase awareness of our school during Francophone week at the end of march. With music and fanfare, we observed and tasted the culinary talents of six members of les Enfants de Coeur, an organization of French chefs and restaurateurs, two of whom are parents at André-Piolat. Among other things we relished Belgian waffles, French crepes, blue cheese and pear tarts, sautéed prawns, seared veal chops, yellow tail tuna and stuffed profiteroles, all accompanied by good wine! As well we could meander and shop in a French market for such delights as maple syrup, fine chocolates, vinaigrettes, cheese and fresh baguettes, among other delicacies. The children enjoyed themselves as well with face painting, flowerpot decorating, an enthusiastic musical entertainer, and a great outdoor playground. At the end of the day, the parents were exhausted but very proud of all their efforts as the fair kick-started the fundraising for the playground at our soon-to-be constructed ROSE-DES-VENTS, VANCOUVER Another busy year at Rose-des-Vents! Our students enjoyed a whole range of activities and events, each more interesting than the last: a spring fair, Francophonie Week, science day, the UBC Science Fair, lessons in swimming, drawing and painting, piano, creative development, knitting... whew! Things are sure moving at our school, especially since the arrival of our new athlete-in-residence, Steve Vigneault. Our most remarkable project of this extraordinary year, however, is our superb silk painting mural, which the students designed with the help of our artist-in-residence, Joey Mallette. This art project represents francophonie in British Columbia through the eyes of our young artists. This year, students were also able to enjoy a new hot-meal service, 3 days per week, in addition to the traditional pizza and burrito days. Parents also benefited from the new after- school daycare service, V’/a /’bon vent. Younger brothers and sisters and preschoolers from the community can now prepare PorRT-COQulTLAM Des Pionniers is buzzing with activity...beginning with the outstanding participation of our grade 2 and 3 students in the legendary Maillarville Logging Festival. We enjoyed the students’ wonderful voices in the enormous children’s tent. We were also able to admire the high school students’ face-painting skills, which they demonstrated in our school tent. A wonderful experience for all! Des Pionniers School hosted a big family dance. This was a school. We would like to thank all those who helped and participated including parents, students, les Enfants de Coeur, the merchants and the community. The French Country Gourmet Fair was an inspirational event for our school! See you all next year! Christophe Simon, APE president for “big school” at the V’/a /’bon vent nursery school. Our dynamic involvement doesn’t stop there! We are already starting to work on projects for the 2003-04 school year. The parents committee is planning a silent auction for November and we also plan to form a chess club and introduce a theatre activity. All of these future projects are designed to constantly improve the quality of life for our students and to accommodate our growing student body! That’s right, next year Rose-des-Vents will house students from Kindergarten to Grade 6! On behalf of all of the Rose-des-Vents parents, I would like to thank our director, Gisele Verrier, who does some extraordinary work and makes Rose-des-Vents a great place to learn! Thanks, too, to Line, our secretary, to our teachers and supervisors, and to the many parent volunteers, without whom our school would not be the same. Finally, thanks to the students...they are the ones that fill each day with wonder and inspire us to get involved! Lucie Gingras, APE secretary hugely successful event. The dance brought together some 111 people (61 adults and 50 children). Thanks to the organizers, to all of the parent volunteers, and to everyone who took part. Along with our many outings...aquari'um, amusement park, skating...we also had a visit from a puppet theatre troupe. All of the young people in the school were able to enjoy the show. Thanks to all of the school teachers and staff for keeping our young people in the swing! Louise-Anouk Ouellet, APE councillor PAGE 20 INFO-PARENTS
