| welcome you all to our 25th anniversary celebration. This year marks a very
special milestone: for 25 years we have shared the French Canadian culture
of Maillardville/Coquitlam with you all. Again this year you can expect
music, food, storytelling and great family fun.

Our festival story goes as follows: In 1989, after 80 years of significant

francophone presence in Maillardville, a small group of very passionate people (as

if there are any other kind in Maillardville) formed a committee. With the work of Suzanne Tkach,

Denis Blouin and Evelyne Christie, Maillardville’s Festival du Bois was born.

It was first created to honour those families who came here to work

in the wood industry, and to celebrate the French Canadian spirit.

From the get-go, the community and its hundreds of volunteers

were an integral part of the event. It is so gratifying to see
that many of them still

with you. For those reasons, we again feature many of our treasures

that have, over the years, captured our hearts and so many of yours. Here’s
to a successful 25th anniversary, and the hope that you will join in the celebration!

C’est avec plaisir et une grande fierté que l’équipe du Festival du Bois et moi vous invitons
a la célébration du 25e anniversaire du festival. Nous soulignons cette année un événement
particuliegrement important, celui de 25 années de partage de la culture francophone a
Maillardville. Musique, mets traditionnels, histoire et plaisir en famille seront une fois encore
au rendez-vous.

Voici un brin d'histoire de notre festival. La communauté francophone, aprés 80 ans de présence
a Maillardville, a créé, en 1989, un petit comité de personnes trés passionnées comme Suzanne
Tkach, Evelyne Christie et Denis Blouin, le Festival du Bois est créé. D’abord afin d’honorer les
premiéres familles qui se sont installées dans la région pour travailler dans l'industrie du bois,
le Festival du Bois veut aussi célébrer |’esprit des canadiens-frangais. Depuis le premier jour, la
communauté participe vivement a |’événement par la présence d’une centaine de bénévoles
qui nous honorent encore de leur présence et de leur précieuse aide aprés 25 ans! Il a toujours
été question de communauté, de culture et de tradition, c’est pourquoi nous présenterons
encore cette année plusieurs de nos trésors issus de la culture francophone, ceux desquels nous
sommes tombés amoureux et qui vous ont accrochés vous aussi.
