Conference stresses awareness for teen ‘drivers ‘Contributed by _ Sarah Cromarty | TERRACE — The Wheels to Awareness, Youth Leadership conference was held at the Inn of the West this past weekend. ICBC, along with local busi- nesses, sponsored the event, which: was mostly organized by Terrace high school students from the Queen Charlotte Islands to Burns Lake. Workshops were facilitated by Constable Ewen Harvie, Doug Smith, Ed De Walle, Dick Evans, Dr. K. Asante, ‘Carol Harvie and others to educate youth in traffic accident preven- tion and various skills the stu- dents can use to get involved 3 in ‘CounterAttack. ‘A play called “Tanya, Do Not Bend, Fold or Mutilate’’, was performed by students. from Prince Rupert on Friday morn- ing; then there was a series of workshops, eftertainment by the Melloyds and a dance to end _the day. On Saturday students were shown a wrecked car damaged in a traffic accident. There was also a police car, ambulance, hearse, fire truck, friends’ car and a parents’ car with the big. question: How are you going to get home? Bowling and water- slides were on the agenda as fun activities before the wind-up banquet, which included BCAA public speaking awards, and a slide presentation by Constable Harvie and Terry Bartlett. Wild menu for Rod and Gun Club banquet A banquet hosted by the Ter- race Rod and Gun Club and the ._ B.C. Wildlife Federation at the Thornhill Community Centre Saturday night included a menu that was not only plentiful but unique, Catered by Howard and Marjorie Cromarty, the meal allowed. approximately 100 guests to select from a choice of pheasant, cariboo, cougar, bear, beef, pork, rabbit, fox, antelope, salmon, porcupine and beaver. The event was emceed by Terry Morris, who introduced guest speakers Earl Warnock, the director for the northern region of the Ministry of En- virooment and BCWLF presi- dent Stu Reed. City freeman Vesta Douglas welcomed all the __guests on behalf of the City of Terrace.. The evening then wound up with a dance featuring _ the local band ‘‘Rocky Tops”’.
