Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That as requested in a letter from the District of Coquitlam, January 10th, i975, an amount of $375.00 be allocated from the $900.90 operating budget for 1975 of the School District #43 Family Division Committee to help defray the costs of bringing Mr. Bengt Borjeson, Director of a family treatment village facility near Stockholm, Sweden, to this area for a workshop with various Family Division Committees, on the basis of Mr. Borjeson being made available as a lecturer, and that the said amount of $375.00 be shared on the basis of the Simon Fraser Health Unit formula. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolutions, a discussion ensued, & and in answer to a query from Alderman Ranger, Alderman Thompson, the City's 1974 representative on the Committee, advised that its function is to provide guidance, on a continuing basis, with respect to rehabilitation of youngsters, advisement to the Province as to what kind of additional facilities there should be; also, it acts as a Board of Directors in areas where there is difficulty in the learning process with respect to education and/or adapting to the community. Acting-Mayor Alderman Keryluk, the City's 1975 representative on the Committee, mentioned the make-up of the personnel being those who are very deeply involved in working with young people - i.e. - Social Workers and Probation Officers. Alderman Laking inquired whether the Committee assisted in situations where there are family problems, and Alderman Thompson advised that it did - on a reference basis.
