June 14th,1976 Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That as recommended in the report of the Public Works Committee, June Lith, 1976: 1. the present B.C. Hydro letter of credit in the amount of $116,400.00 to guarantee the original required work on Kingsway be changed to a cash payment to the City and in fact this would discharge B.C. Hydro's obligations te offsite improvements; 2. As mentioned in the report, offsite requirements included road widening, curb and gutter, and boulevard along the east and northeast side of Kingsway. Instead of this the City should proceed with the complete reconstruction of the northwest, southeast portion of Kingsway in accordance with Z. Kuun'’s Drawing 031-P2. The 48-inch storm sewer on this portion of Kingsway would be installed as originally planned. Carried. Alderman Keryluk voted aga“ ist the resolution. General interest questions were then accepted by the representatives and Alderman Ranger queried the breakdown of the road along Eastern Drive and whether or not Hydro had considered using a smaller vehicle to 4 ra é ; i I 5 which Mr. Sharman replied that some of the newer buses in the fleet were in fact smaller units, however, due to the connection of the Mary Hill run to the downtown commuter run, it would not be likely that one of these smaller units would be placed on this particular route. Further expansion of the trolley system into the suburban Vancouver areas was queried, however, Mr. Sharman advised that the whole concept of the trolley system was presently under review and at the present time there were no plans for expansion. Regarding problems encountered in such locations as the Red Bridge and Kingsway Bridge with oncoming traffic, Alderman Ranger asked if it would not be possible to install a control light that could be activated from the bus and Mr. Sharman advised that the subject has been under consideration and discussion with the Department of Highways. Acting~Mayor Aldermen Traboulay thanked the representatives of B.C.Hydro for their excellent presentation and the City Engineer advised that the two models on display this evening would be lef: in place until tomorrow. Additionally, there would be coptes of the brochure provided for the Council and the Press.
