November 15th, 1976 From the City Administrator, November 12th, 1976, advising of requests received from the New View Society and the Coquitlam Volunteer Bureau to rent the old Library building at a reduced rate for their own use, and stating that the Council originally agreed to rent this space at prevailing rates to help offset the cost of renting the new Library facilities-~- a decision recently confirmed by the Building & Protection Committee when discussing the New View application. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Aldarman Laking: That rental of the old Library premises at 2253 Leigh Square at prevailing rates, previously agreed to by Council and recently confirmed by the Building & Protection Committee, be re-confirmed. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Mrs. Sharon DiSanto, Director of the New View Society, was in attendance and on invitation of His Worship the Mayor, spoke in support of the application from that organization to rent the old Library space for the sum of $100.00 per month. Mrs. DiSanto advised that the Society presently assists 65 mentally and physically handicapped persons through training in crafts, catering work, etc., and pointed out that the old Library space would provide more convenient accommodation than the City-owned Dalkey Building the Society now shares with several other organizations. Mrs. DiSanto also mentioned that the Dalkey Building, which is in a somewhat 'set- back' location, being situated adjacent to the access road on the West side of the Shaughnessy Street underpass and South of Kingsway Avenue, is constantly being vandalized, with supplies and articles for sale being either stolen or damaged. Members of Council, while sympathizing with the needs of the Society, felt that the commitment of the Ccuncil to rent the old Library space at prevailing rates to offset the cost of the new facilities should be upheld; however, it was generally agreed that it may be possible to improve the work area, storage capacity and security at the Dalkey Building. From the Senior Building Inspector, November 12th, 1976, advising of two applications received for new duplexes - one at 1938-40 Eastern Drive (Lot 251) and one at 1401-05 Victoria Drive (Lot 360) ~ and that these presently vacant properties meet all the Zoning By~law requirements for such use.
