That would place us at a serious disadvantage in
protecting our industries and interests. Until now GATT has
been a voluntary body which makes non-binding rulings.

As well the free trade agreement also prevents us from
placing further export restrictions on raw resources. In the
fishing industry this would mean many thousands of jobs will
remain.lost to us as groundfish is exported out of Canada
raw.

We realize there are many opinions on the free trade
agreement and the controversial nature of the move by the
federal government. However, we would be remiss in not
bringing to councils attention these facts.
