There have also been trips 'o Coquitlas and Penticton for skate cospetitions. Since the outdoor bovls are only useable in good veatner and Richaond demands a four hour round trip bus ride, the kids trred to fina a solution at hose by using the Rec Centre. Sin e they nave been as'red not to skate there any sore, they have been skatrng at the Bank of B.C. Building and Stacy's vhich is totally unacceptable to parents i'AR 1o ]gg3 and storeevners. Young people are saying they need assistance and protection in dealng with the pressures of gangs and youth violence. I( The contact line is a result of a significant community mobilization effoa. Funding and/or corporate support for the pilot project has brought together a broad base of community partners, including: Ministry of Attorney General; Solicitor General of Canada; Lions International; Sony of Canada; and B.C. Transit, through the B.C. Crime Prevention Association. All information is strictly confidential. No call display is used on the lines. The purpose of the line is to reach young people to let them know that: ~ ~ people care about the pressures facing young people from gangs and youth violence; together, youth, the community and police can take action to address gang/youth violence; and the Gang/Youth Contact Line is a safe and confidential way to get help and share information about crimes. IIII ml Schools, community youth workers, young people, media, and prominent sports, entertainment and community figures have all agreed to lend their support to raise awareness about the problems of youth violence and to promote the contact line. 250,000 wallet cards with the Gang/Youth Contact Line numbers in each community will be distributed to every grade 7-1 2 student in the target communities. Cards will also be available through muni ipal parks and recreation offices, police officers and community youth workers. Translations of contact line information is availabie in Vietnamese, Spanish, Cantonese and Punjabi. The purpose of this report is to provide information and a recommendation to the Parks & Recreation Committee regarding a process for selecting a consultant to provide professional services related to the development of a community theatre, Background information: Proposals for services for this project were acoepted until the end of last week. Four firms bid on the project. The next step is to select one of the firms to work with us on this project. A number of methods are available to us regarding the selection process. However, in light of the importance of this project, it would be most valuable to receive input for all interested City Council members. Therefore, I am recommending an evening meetinjf where the members of Council can listen to presentations from the various firms and ask related questions. Members of City Council would then make a decision to identify the successful firm.
