Finance Committce- request for grant- Boy Scouts From the Finance Committee, June 6th, 1975, being a request for a Grant-in-Aid from the Boy Scouts of Canada towards sending two boys to the World Jamboree in Norway, and advising that in view of the restrictive grant policy, provision has not been made in the annual budget for grants. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That as recommended in a report from the Finance Committee, June 6th, 1975, the request for a grant-in-aid from the Boy Scouts Association, not be approved. Finance Committee- request for grant - PoCoMo Boys & Girls Club From the Finance Committee, June 6th, 1975, advising of a brief received from the PoCoMo Boys & Girls Club requesting an allocation of $2,000.00, and stating the Committee feels it cannot entertain such a request for direct financing as assistance is not given to the Boy Scouts, Guides, or other youth organizations, also, it would appear that the Club requires annual funding. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That as recommended in a report from the Finance Committee, June 6th, 1975, consideration not be given for a grant-in-aid to the PoCoMo Boys and Girls Club for 1975. Following the foregoing motion being proposed, a discussion ensued, and Alderman Ranger stated he was aware that as Director of the Club, he would not be permitted to vcte on ary decision made with respect to the request; however, he made a brief presentation, pointing out that the Club, unlike other youth groups, is a day to day operation (except Sundays) and could be considered as an extension of the Recreation Programme. Alderman Ranger further explained that the Club provides an unstructured type of recreation where youth can participate and have a feeling of belonging. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay pointed out that the resolution requires 5 votes of Council, and stated he would accept a motion to defer the matter until sufficient members are present to make a decision. Alderman Keryluk agreed, and commented that by virtue of Council's policy with respect to grants, it would not be possible to deal with requests of this nature.
