Alderman Wright spoke regarding the increase of population and the need for the Eagle Ridge Ylospital and whether the petition in favour of the hospital now circulating would be sent to the Minister of Health, the Honourable Rafe Mair and Mayor Laking stated it would be and Mayor Laking advised he met with the Minister in Victoria and a decision on the hospital is expected at the end of April. Alderman Wright suggested that Mr. A.I. Smith, the City's representative on the Eagle Ridge Hospital Board attend the Council meeting of April 14th, 1980. Alderman Keryluk stated the doctors are attempting to dictate policy regarding a hospital and Mayor Laking stated the doctor's concerns are a lack of services for the small number of beds now proposed for the hospital. Alderman Traboulay suggested Dr. Blatherwick be invited to attend the Council meeting of April 14th, 1980. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That a letter be written to Dr. Blatherwick, Director of the Simon Fraser Health Unit inviting him to attend the Council meeting to be held on April 14th, 1980. Carried. Moved by Alderman Wright: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That the City of Port Coquitlam advise the Minister of Health, the Honourable Rafe Mair, of its support of the construction of the proposed Eagle Ridge Hospital.
