« r THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Council March 19th, 1980 FROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee Meeting held March 18th, 1980, IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman E.W. Mabbett Alderman L.M. Traboulay F.E. Peters, P. Eng., City Engineer. ITEM I Re: Request from Dairy Queen for Outdoor Benches The manager of the local Dairy Queen has requested Council to consider giving permission for him to install a landscaped seating area on the sidewalk space on Whyte Avenue outside the Daiv-y Queen. A plan sketch of his proposal is attached and an artists rendering will be posted in the Council Chamber. , If given permission to do this work, the Dairy Queen would undertake to provide complete maintenance of these facilities including the emptying of the garbage containers and cleanup of the surrounding area on a daily basis. They are also prepared to amend their insurance to name the City as an additional insured with respect to these facilities. The seating to be constructed would not interfere with normal pedestrian use of the sidewalk since it is designed to fill in the space between the existing planters. The benches are set in such a position that there is space for legs to be extended without encroaching upon the travelled portion of the sidewalk. The proposed construction includes the provision of two garbage containers built into the brickwork. The Committee recommends that the Dairy Queen be allowed to under- take the construction subject to the conditions shown above and that the Engineer be authorized to issue a permit. The Committee feels that this would make an attractive addition to our downtown area. ITEM II Re: Request for Loading Zone at Commercial Hotel A letter from Mr. Don Markwart of Port Coquitlam Taxi had been referred to the Public Works Committee. Mr. Markwart complains that it is often necessary to double park on Flint Street in order to adequately serve the passengers from the Commercial Hotel. [2.46%
