June 9 featured Terrace & District Credit Union and Kinsmen. The 12:30 p.m, start time saw players competing in the most intense heal of the season so far. This game didn’t start well for Kinsmen who went down 5-0 in the first inning. The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when the pace picked up. — In the lop half of the inning, Kinsmen cul the lead to 5-2. Bul in the bottom of the fifth T.D.C.U. came right back with five runs.- Up by eight runs, T.D.C.U. heid on for a 13-7 victory. June 11 was a much closer Kinsmen-Spee- dee match up: than.on Saturday. Instead of a usual slow start, Speedee took a 5-0 lead after one. They were up 7-1 after three, bul in the fourth inning when Speedee’s train de-railed. Kinsmen’ took advantage ef poor pitching and a couple of defensive errors, and just like that the score was 7-6 for Specdee. Kinsmen was right back in this basebail game. Speedee added to their Jead with runs in the fourth and fifth to take an 11-7 lead — one that was certainly not safe. In the top of the sixth, Kinsmen scored another five runs, to take the lead for the first time in the game. Up 12-11, Kinsmen needed to shut down Specdee in the bottom of the sixth, and with _lead, which they held the rest two runners on base, Kinsmen’s Scott Vander- lee struck out the next three Speedee batters * to end the inning. Due to team photos, this game had to be cut short after six, resulting in Kinsmen edging out Speedee Printers by a score of 12-11. The final game of the regular season took place June 12; with T.D.C.U, taking the field with Speedce. T.D.C.U. was up 2-1 through an inning and a half, but in the bottom of the sec- ond, Speedee picked up five runs to lake a of the way. T.D.C.U. narrowed the gap to 8-7 in the fifth, but Speedee responded with runs in the. fifth and sixth holding on for a 15-10 victory. Speedee’s win was a lucky number 13. The regular season champions finished up with a record of I3 wins, 4° losses, and 2 ties. Kinsmen placed second, while T.D.C.U. finished up third. The Junior League Playoffs took place this past weekend; look for details in the next edition of At the Diamond, Coming up this weekend is the annual Ju- nior Baseball tournament at Rotary Field. This year, a team from Burns Lake is scheduled to join the three Terrace teams for a great week- end of baseball. The first game is Friday night at 6 pxm. and the final goes Sunday at noon.
