Traboulay City of Port Coquitlam 2580 Shaughnessy Street Port Coquitlam, B.C. V3C 2A8 ° a f Ow Dear Mayor Tra fay: wee In recent’ years parents throughout the municipalities of School District No. 43 are expressing increased concerns about the growing vehicular traffic affecting pedestrian safety, especially school-aged children. The District 43 Parent Teacher Council Traffic Safety Concerns Committee appeared as a delegation before the Board at its November 14th meeting. One of the recommendations of this Committee, iS that a representative Traffic Advisory Council be established. The membership of this Council would consist of municipal aldermen, school trustees, parent reps from the Parent Teacher Council, student reps, R.C.M.P., I.C.B.C., and administration from each jurisdiction. The function of this Traffic Advisory Council] would be to make recommendations to either a municipal Council or the School Board, for review and possible adoption, to resolve particular concerns brought forward from the Council. Another major role of the Traffic Advisory Counci] would be to promote traffic safety awareness programs through the school system and our conmunities to educate students, parents, and all motorists in developing safe driving habits. A special emphasis would be placed on safety awareness in school zones and during times of frequent use by students.
