CIigTy OF PORT COQUITLAM GENERAL KEMARKS The Animal Control Facility during the year 1977 indicates a number of positive features and they are as follows. , Firstly, the number of complaints received during the year was reduced from 450 to 333, a reduction of 26 percent. The number of animals impounded increases from 422 to 443 and is the first time that the number of impoundments have exceeded the number of conplaints. This is an indication that the animal control officer is now dealing with the bona fide dog owner without his efforts being masked by the surplus pet. During the year, the ratio of dogs claimed to those impounded showed a reduction from 54 percent to 42 Percent, however, this is a natural trend experienced _ with the changing of impounding fees and also licence fees. During the year 1978, there will be a Progressive upswing, this was experienced in the latter months of 1977. The number of animals destroyed as surplus to human requirements was reduced by 23 percent. This is indicative of the results of the Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic. Effective from the first of February, all owners adopting animals from the shelter will be given two brochures which are as follows: a) "You are now a pet owner" b) “Make your community a better place for pets and people" The brochures will contain information on the following: a) extracts of by-laws b) how to train your animal c) care of your animal d) Operation Tattoo @) the advantages of spaying and neutering The purpose of these brochures is to assist in the education of pet owners in the control and husbandry of their animals. | . pew i AB) aah Ed eae
