A regular meeting of the Municipal Council of The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam was held in the Council Chambers, Port Coquitlam City Hall, 2272 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlam, B.C. on June 23rd, 1980 at 7:30 p.m. His Worship Mayor G.R. Laking, Aldermen M.D. Gates, J.J. Keryluk, E.W. Mabbett, P.F. Ranger, L.M. Traboulay and M.R. Wright in attendance. Also in attendance were Chief Administrative Officer L.D. Pollock, City Clerk R.A. Freeman, City Engineer F.£. Peters, P. Eng., City Planner L. Lee, City Treasurer J.G.S. Maitland, Deputy Fire Chief J.N. Boileau, Works & Utilities Superintendent G.W. Ulmer, and Mrs. D.hL. Vyse. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES: Minutes: June 16th, 1980 Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That the minutes of the regular meeting of this Counell held on June 16th, 1980 be taken as read and adopted. Carried. DELEGATIONS: Delegations: Mr. K.Ballantyne His Worship Mayor G.R. Laking intreduced Mr. Keith R. Ballantyne, re Commuter Rail 1184 Fraser Avenue, who then addressed Council regarding using Commuter Rail as a solution to commuter transportation problems. Mr. Ballantyne referred to the increased traffic and tie future costs to the Municipalities for new roads and bridges. Mr. Bullantyne commented that implementation ef railway service on the C.P.R. tracks bas been denied so far on the basis of insuffictent population and advised that the population of the NE Sector has now grown and [8 greater than the larger municipalities of Burnaby and Surrey. Mr. Ballantyne preposed that munledpal ities bordering the C.P.R. tracks combine thelr resources and produce a study implementing the CPLR. tracks ag a solution te eommuiter transportation preblems, Alderman Traboulay congratulated Mr. Ballantyne fer his presentation and commented in favour of the proposals. Alderman Keryluk referred to the Urban Transit Authority proposal and commented that the commuter rail would generate its own traffie when implemented.
