Res Purchase of New Fire Equipment

During Budget discussions this year, the Fire Chief presented in
his Budget proposals details of some equipment purchases. The main items
were. the purchase of an aerial platform fire truck and an additional pumper.
During Budget discussions, these items were deferred to be taken care of
by borrowing rather than inclusdion in the Annual Budget and the acquisition §-
was to be subsequently dealt with by the Fire Committee and the Finance

Commit tee.

: The Fire Committee has endorsed the purchase of the aerial platform
for this year, subject to the necessary financing being obtained. The subject
of financing was subsequently taken up with the Finance Committee which
reviewed proposals from the Treasurer involving a Five Year Lease or,
alternatively, outright purchase by way of Short Term Capital Borrowing.

Prior to giving the matter final consideration and making a recommendation

the Committee had asked that the Fire Chief provide more information in

support of the purchase as the estimated cost of the aerial platform unit

alone is approximately $180,000. The Committee has not yet had an opportunity

to review any additional information on the purchase to. date and has therefore
not made any recommendations. : .

I understand that there is some urgency in concluding this matter
and I have been asked to include the item on the Agenda for general discussion
of Council. I expect that the Fire Chief and the Fire Committee will provide
additional information in support of the purchase at that time.
