Dear Mr. Freeman: Re: Mosquito Control} Propram - 1972. In reply to your letter cf February 16, 1972 concerning the above subject, I can advise you as follows. The Department of Agriculture hes for Many years made a grant for mosquito control co the Fraser Valley Mosquito Control Board and other similar organizations throughout the Province. ‘This grant amounts te 15% of the total monies spent the previous yeare In 197i our grant to the Fraser Valley Board was $3700.00. This is in addition to technical services which we have provided and still provide, There is Presently available sufficient knowledge respecting equipment, drainage requirements, chemicals etc. to implement a good program of ground control of mosquitoes in your area. Our entomologists have long advocated the implementation of more extensive use of these techniques to che Fraser Valley Mosquito Board. However, such advise has been largely ignored. Such & prograr: of ground contrel can cniy be inplemented svecesstully only under the directicn Of a competentc manager or diractor who has sufficient time to Plan and divec‘ the program. The present program as suggested by SFEC to be carried ous unda: the Opportunities for Youth Grant in the City of Porte Coquitlam iz as far as wo can determine composed of two phases. , (a) implementation of ground conrrol practices. (such as we have advocated for years and before SPEC was in existence.) (b) research into the use of the use of Parasites, predators and pathogens, Research of a similar nature has been carried out for years by qualified research sclentists tn many other areas, but as yet litcle, if any, practical application of their use is known. this does svt Suggest that more research is not needed, but it does suggest chat ove/2
