IT’S MOVING day for the Salvation Army Thrift Shop. After operating its popular second- hand store and a range of service pro- grams out of its downtown Lakelse Ave. location for years, the Salvation Army is heading across the tracks to the Keith Ave. Mall. At 4,600-square-feet, the new 4712 Keith Ave. logation is bigger, with nearly double the amount of storage space, said David Sessford, director of community and family services, There’s also more space for offices and other rooms that may be used as classrooms for life skills courses in the future. “It’s a bigger location,” Sessford said. “It means we can offer more pro- grams and more services.” In addition to the thrift shop, the Keith Ave. location will be the Army’s THAT'S DAVID Sessford from the Salvation Army in the entrance of the organization’s new thrift store and office space in the Keith Ave. Mall. The Army had been at its Lakelse Lake location for years. Salvation Army moves thrift store base of aperations for its food and Christmas hamper program, commun- ity and family services. Location was the biggest factor in the move, a local decision that was approved by Salvation Army headquar- ters. ‘One, it?s closer.to people living on Terrace's south side, and two, il’s big- ger. . - The Lakelse Ave. location the Army rented for many years was the site of renovations about five years ago but it still wasn’t-big enough. “We've outgrown thal building,” Sessford said, adding the rent will be a little higher in the new location, but it should prove more cost-effective in the long run. Proceeds from the thrift store sup- port family services and other pro- prams.
