Committee Room at City Hall on October 31, 1989 at 3I30 p.m.

A meeting

In attendance were Alderman John Keryluk and Alderman George Laking.

Also ln attendance was Mike McKone and a delegation from Metro
Motors and K. Janna Taylor, Parks & Recreation Director.

Lougheed Median

Mike McKone met with the Parks and Recreation

Committee to discuss the question of trees blocking

visibility to the various businesses along Lrugheed
Highway between Westwood Street and Hastings
Street. The attached letter from Mr. McKone was
reviewed as was the letter from the Golden Lotus

ICOSI

Restaurant.

Mr. McKone basically restated what he had written in
his letter. The committee indicated that they did

not support removing sll the trees, but would
consider removing some trees.

Recommendation

Ik

That Mr. McKone's reports were noted and that a
report would be sent to Council requesting

removal of some of the trees.

The tall trees ar e an unfair hindr ance to the aFfected businesses because similar m diana do nat have tall trees. Why shauld similar businesses with similar highway frontage be tr eated differ ently? The
Lougheed Highway heading east from Shaughnessy is virtually identical
in dimensians, age, and cans r uctian yet the median only has law lying
shrubbery. The new Mary Hill bypass does not have a planted median at
