— COUR REPORT AUG 26 1974 TO: Mayor and Gouncil August 12, 1974 FROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee meeting held Tuesday, July 30th, 1974 at 7:00 a.m.. , In Attendance: Alderman M.A. Thompson Alderman J.J. Keryluk V.G. Borch, P.Eng. Respectfully submitted. ITEM I Rea: Pedestrian Crosswalk ~ Hastings and Lougheed Intersection At the regular Council Meeting held on July 22nd, 1974, the’ following resolution was passed "THAT the Department of Highways be contacted regarding installation of appropriate flashing lights on the Lougheed Highway indicating to approaching motorists the existance of the pedestrian crosswalk located at the Hastings and Lougheed Intersection", The Committee feels that the most significant conflict with the pedestrian traffic crossing the Lougheed is caused by motorists making a4 left turn onto the Lougheed Highway from Hastings street. In fact, occasions arise when motorists wishing to make this movement use the pedestrian signal to aid the movement. Subsequent to the Public Works Committee Meeting, this matter was discussed by the Mayor and the City Engineer in a meeting with Department of Kighways Officials in Victoria. The Officials did not feel installation of warning lights was necessary, but they did advise that we should be hearing shortly about their deliberations concerning the establishment of crosswalk patrols. ITEM IL Re: Stop Sien at Burns and Dominion A majority of the Committee recommend that a Stop Sign be installed on Burns Street at the North side of Dominion Avenue.
