ny The Parks & Recreation Committee supported the consultant’s recommendation that the native garden park was more appropriate for the area. The sports park would completely domimate the park space, taking up approximately 80% of the total area. Also the indication was that only 20-25% of the neighbourhood population would use such a sports park. Copies of the conceptual plan were circulated to members of Council. Poblic Infommation Meeting Earlier this Fall a public information meeting was held with the neighbourhood. At the meeting the native garden park was presented and there was strong support for this style of park. ‘The people's main concems were around parking, league play for softball, consideration foy toilets, lighting and playground equipment for young children. Clearing of Park In order to proceed with the construction of the park, certain cottonwoods and alders need to be cleared. The area to be cleared is approximately four acres. The cost to clear, grub and haul away the trees is $24,000. The estimate to clear and grub from the consultants was $20,000. However, this cost was based on burning and the Parks and Recreation Committee does not want to do this on this particular park site. The money to do the cleaning will be taken from the $300,000 set aside for the construction of Chelsea Park. Detailed Drawings Due to the fact that this is a relatively small park site, the drainage design is minimal and there are no major land development problems; design work will be done in house. The Director of Planning and the Parks Superintendent, will be working together to do the detail design. Normaily detailed design drawings would be done by a consultant. cm CS iF a File No. 202.1
