/2. February 17th, 1975 REPORTS : Ald.Keryluk re From Alderman J.J. Keryluk, February 13th, 1975 concerning the 1975 '75 mosquito control program Mosquito Control Program and referring to the fact that the Mosquito Control Board has disbanded and locally the Greater Vancouver Regional District has formed a Committee to undertake this function for the interested G.V.R.D. municipalities; also, an attempt is being made to co-ordinate this function amongst the four Regional Districts covered by the original Fraser Valley Mosquito Control Board. A letter from Mr. L.T. Harrington, Assistant Manager of the Committee, February 10th, 1975, was submitted with Alderman Keryluk's report advising that the Fraser Valley Mosquito Control Board was moving towards the retention of their mosquito control officer on a full year basis because of the need to pre-plan programs and co-ordinate with the Provincial and Federal authorities throughout the year, besides the problem of hiring someone competent in this specialist field on a part~year basis, and recommending the retention of Beak Consultants because of Mr. Craig's (the mosquito control officer) association with that firm. It was noted in the letter that an attempt is being made to co-ordinate with the other Regional Districts involved in setting up a program fer 1975; however, in the event that the G.V.R.D. group is unable to get together with the other Regional Districts involved, then the Conmittee will recommend contracting with Beak Consultants on its own, although the costs will be proportionately higher than if operating with the other Regional Districts. Alderman Keryluk advised that the estimated cost of retaining the services of Beak Consultants would be $19,000. to cover the 13 municipalities that had participated in the Fraser Valley Mosquito Control Board, and that that figure would remain as is with the four Regional Districts participating; however, if the operation is undertaken by the Greater Vancouver Regional District only, the costs would be proportionately higher. Alderman Ranger commented he thought the turnout to the recently- held Lower Mainland Municipal Association meeting in White Rock would indicate interest and the willingness of the other municipalities to participate in the programme, and he then proposed the following motion: Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That the Assistant Manager of the Mosquito Control Committee, Greater Vancouver Regional District, be authorized to proceed with the program indicated in his letter of February 10th, 1975. Withdrawn.
