Prices of lots, Mr. . Murray states, will be so low at the he- A|ginning of the sale that pur- E|chasers are certain of an early | profit if they choose to turn their lots over. From time to time, of course, advances in prices will follow the development of the town. The first sale will probably open in September. There will be no auction except on the sale of government lots, which must be disposed of by auction. Ex- perience” has shown, says Mr. Murray, that selling by auction tends to fix prices somewhat a- bove immediate values, whereas the policy of the Grand Trunk Pacifie in connection with Smithers is to fix prices, at first, rather below actual values, to allow the purchasers to share in the ‘unearned increment,” _ Plans for water supply and electric lighting are being pre- pared. It is probable that for present use a high level reser- voir of sufficient capacity to fur- nish water for al} industrial, municipal and railroad purposes will be constructed, while a hydro-electric plant to furnish light and power is under consid- eration, Mr. Murray will leave for Van- couver tomorrow, on business connected with thenew town, Pack saddles at Sargent’s. Having so much of this wide- spread disease in our Indian pop- ulation, you may be sure I am following up this treatment with the utmost care. In visiting the hospitals of this city, where I am eajoying the privilege of meetirig with:a number of the foremost men in the different lines of medical and surgical practice, I find that on all sides the greatest interest is being taken inthis en- quiry thatis now being carried on, both in New York and’ some eastern Canadian cities, A digest of the views expres- sed by the safest and most fair- minded men, men whose stand- ing and ability make them emi- nently qualified to express an opinion, is somewhat as follows: “Dr, Friedmann undoubtedly believes he has discovered a valu- able remedy. He may have done so. Weare by no means in a position yetto say that he has not. Itis greatly to be hoped that thig remedy is all that he claims. The results thus far patients upon whom it has al- ready been tried appear very fav- The element of. hope that would naturally be inspired in a patient who had received -a treatment of a remedy from which he is encouraged to expect so much, would in itself re-act most favorably upon any invalid, and might in itself, produce distinet- ly favorable symptoms. This last factor, together with that of the very slow and insidious na- ture of the progress of tuber-| culosis, either towards a favor- able or unfavorable termination, makes it impossible at the pres- ent stage to pass judgment upon the relative value of the remedy.”’ The above about represents as nearly as I could .gather, the views of such men as I have in- dicated, together with the views expressed in medical literature, man as well as the American journals. In.the minds of such men there is not at all the atti- tude of hostility some of: the papers have thought they dis- covered, On the contrary, there is earnest, and practically uni- versal hope that this remedy is all that is claimed for it and the results are being .eagerly looked for by all. _But at the shortest we must allow from four to aix months to pass before we can feel that ‘Fuch has. been really | proven, ' Personally I find it difficult to the launching of acertain, remedy for this-worst of all diseases that attack the. hunian: race at. the express the: great satisfaction I). would feel-at the. knowledge of}: present era,“ No. greater boon |: ‘be'¢onferréed on, areas saeenmeaeaeiaaenan || peas L es seaae te taa tees ses eet LEAS TP es ee a aren gees PTT CECE CTL ‘can look after all requirements, ~ Children’ S$ Straw Hats Our new stock of Children’s ‘Straw Hais to © hand show some neat hats that are sure to please. : Of Interest to Ladies * From our new arrivals this week ‘of interest to. : - ladies we mention: White arid black Chiffon 50c per yard.
