The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, February 11, 1998 - B3 a Banding together for telethon BANDS FROM Skeena, Caledonia and Thornhill Jr. are joining forces Feb. 12 for the fourth annual Tri- School Band Telethon, : The event takes place Sunday, Feb, 15 at the REM Lee Theatre from 5-8:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Cable 10, The telethon is particularly important this year be- cause bands from all three schools need to raise money to travel to MusicFest which takes place this year in Vancouver, Skeena band instructor Susan Orme says it’s amazing that bands from all three schools have been invited to the prestigious event, But it’s. going to cost a lot of money to get there, Orme estimates travel costs will be about $30-35,000 per school. Last year’s Tri-School telethon raised $8,000 in just a few hours, and Orme is hoping this year’s total will top that amount. You can make a pledge during the telethon, the eve- ning of Feb. 15, by calling 638-1333, Old scout troop revived SCOUTS AND Guides throughout Terrace celebrate Feb, 15-22 with a hike, swim, campfire and mere, And this year a new Scout troop will be joining in the celebrations. Now it has a new sponsor — the Downtown Lions — and a revived leadership headed up by Peter Haigh and Patrick Rife, The scout troop is co-ed and is a mix of experienced and first-time scouters.
