June 9th, 1975 That the minutes of the regular meeting of this Council held on June 2nd, 1975, be taken as read and adopted, Carried. DELEGATIONS: From the Leigh Home & School, June Sth, 1975, advising that a delegation of Leigh School parents wish to discuss the paving of Victoria Drive between Soball Street and Coast Meridian Road this evening. Alderman Ranger advised that the City had budgeted the sum of $1,500.00 to flushcoat its half of Victoria Drive; however, the District of Coquitlam has now stated its intention to machine-lay blacktop on its half, and the additional cost to the City for blacktopping its half would be approximately $4,500.00. Alderman Ranger stated that because of the small amount of traffic on Victoria Drive, and the uncertainty of the Previncial Government's plans with respect to development on Burke Mountain, it is considered to be a lower priority project at this time. Mr. John A. McDonald, acting as spokesman for the delegation, pointed out that the Burke Mountain development may not have any exfect on Victoria Drive, and stated concern that two different surfaces would be constructed, i.e., flushcoating on the South side by the City and bi -cktopping on the North side by the District of Coquitlam. Mr. McDonald also stated that the traffic is very heavy on Victoria Drive, and suggested that Council reconsider its decision to flushcoat its half. Alderman Mabbett stated his concern that to blacktop the City's half of Victoria Drive, more money would be spent than what is budgeted for; also, a great deal of the area is as yet undeveloped, and the road surface would have to be cut in providing services in the future. Alderman Laking commented that the District of Coquitlam budgeted for blacktopping its half last year, and although they did not go ahead with it at that time, indicated they felt the road should be paved. Alderman Laking further stated his view that a road divided by different kinds of surfaces would be a sad thing to see, and that for the extra amount required the City should blacktop its half. Alderman Keryluk stated he felt that the City's half of the road should be blacktopped as it is just possible it may be required to do so. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay commented that ail members of Council had voted to flushcoat Victoria Drive when the first estimate to pave the City's half was $10,000.00 - since reduced to $5,000.00. The City Engineer advised that the figure of $10,000.00 was only a very rough estimate as he did not know at the time the details /3. Leigh Home & School re surfacing- Victoria Dr.
