Stu- dents have a wide variety of extra- curricular activities from which to choose: Students’ Council, Annual Club, Photography Club, Physics Olympics, Science Club, Hospital- ity Club, Environmental Club, Stock Market Club, Amnesty Inter- national Club, Cross-country Club, Choir, Stage Band, Concert Band, CounterAttack Club, Tech Club, Grad Committee, Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Wrestling and Soccer. Physics Olympics Students on the Caledonia Physics Olympics team with the guidance of Allen Wootton had another banner year, placing sec-. ond in the Provincial Finals. Con- gratulations on an outstanding effort! Sports The Boys’ basketball coached by Cam McKay; the Girls’ volleyball team coached by Richard Kreig] and sponsored by Sue Springer; and the Boys’ soccer team coached by Mike Brady and sponsored by Henry Dreger, repre- sented the Northwest Zone at the Provincial Finals in Kamloops. Other athletic highlights included the following; the boys’ volleyball team, sponsored by Tom Hama- kawa and coached by Shawn Krienke and Bruce Neid, placed second in the Zone Finals held in Kitimat; the cross country team, coached by Mike Reid placed second in the Zone Finals and represented Caledonia at the Prov- incial Finals, placing 14th out of 32: teams; Caledonia’s wrestling team had 3 participants placing well in the Northwest Zone Finals and the Northen B.C. Winter Games; the Girls’ Basketball team coached by Grant Holkestad and Gerry Sharples had a rebuilding year and finished behind Prince Rupert at the Zone Finals; the boys’ basketball team, coached by Cam McKay, defeated Prince Rupert to become Zone Champions and went on to defeat Correlieu Clansmen of Quesnel in a playoff to earn a berth into the Provincial Finals in Vancouver; the track and field team, coached by Mike Reid, placed 2nd in the Zone Finals with 6 athletes qualifying for the Prov- incial Finals in Vancouver - the 4 x 100m relay team placed sixth in the Province; the badminton team placed second in the Zone Finals; three new teams have been added this year - girls’ soccer, sponsored by Irene Ennis, golf sponsored by Clayton Lloyd-Jones and lawn tennis, sponsored by Graht Holke- stad. team, Music achievements The Caledonia Concert Band, the . Caledonia Stage Band, and the Caledonia Choir all placed first in their classes at the Pacific North- west Music Festival, and all received Bronze standing at Music Fest '91 in Vancouver. Our stu- dents gave outstanding perform- ances in speech arts, choral music, stage and concert band categories. T-Jay MacKenzie placed first .in senior brass at the B.C. Festival of the Arts held in North Vancouver in late May of 1991. Frances Brodie and Heather Dreger were chosen to be members of the B,C. Honour Choir and B.C. Honour Band respectively. The Staff Caledonia has a staff composed of highly qualified, experienced and dedicated members who ensure that our students receive the best possible education, They are com- mitted to reinforcing, in a positive way, great achievement, effort, attitude and involvement. Scholarships Caledonia has an excelient record of achievement in scholarships and receives wide financial and moral- support in the community. We have a Scholarship Enhancement Programme in operation. Early in the school year, students are pro- vided with current information and eligibility requirements about local, district andprovincial scholarships. They are encouraged to apply to _ Special Scholarships Caledonia, 1990/91 in review write provincial scholarship ¢xam- inations. Subject teachers are pro- vided with the names of students who have applied to write provin- cial scholarship examinations. Teachers give students writing scholarship ‘examinations extra assistance. In the first semester of the 1990-91 school year, 6 of our _ Students; Robert Cuddeford, Jason Krause, Scott Loptson, David Shepherd, James Stein and David Wolfe were recipients of Provincial Scholarships. The second semester of 1990/91 is expected to add another nine to the list of winners. In the January 1991 provincial regular rexaminations, ten students had final marks of 90% or higher in the 18 provincially examinable courses. ; . Students are able to obtain schol- arships to travel within and outside of Canada. Over the past years, we have been hosting many students from overseas from such varied countries as Finland, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, New Zealand and Japan. Our students have gone to Egypt, France, Japan, Australia, Chile, Mexico, India, Hawaii, Ottawa and Trois Rivieres (Que- bec).
