THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM on the road portion of this connection. It was also mentioned that there may be a grant available to cover the cost of the bridge or a portion thereof. Construction of the above section of road and bridge assumes that agreement cen be reached with the District for the section of road which lies within the District. Obviously we are mot going to be able to reach an agreement prior to January 3rd. However, since the design and construction of the bridge will carry us into 1984 in any case, the Committee feels we should make application now and use the next few months until Highways approval is forthcoming to try to get agreement with the District on the road within their boundaries. A very rough estimate of the cost of. this crossing and approach roads has been done. There are many uncertainties in this price because of the lack of knowledge about soil conditions and lack of an existing bridge design. However, the rough estimates may be useful to Council to.give an idea of the potential range of costs. The bridge itself is expected to cost somewhere in the order of $900,000. The new approach road on the City side may cost $250,000 and some reconstruction of Wilson Avenue and traffic signals at the intersection of Shaughnessy and Wilson may add another $200,000. The total cost that the City would be facing then would be around 1.4 million dollars. Assuming that at least 50% would be available from Highways under Revenue Sharing and grants and another 1/4 million from insurance proceeds, that would leave about half a million dollars to finance through Development Cost Charges or other reserves. Meetings at the technical level as well as at the political level will be taking place shortly between ourselves, the District and the Department of Highways. In the meantime, the Committee recommends approval of an application for Revenue Sharing on these projects. —— 2 fF.E. Peters#, P. Eng, City Engineer FEP/sqg R30
