THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM Ht JUL 7 19380 MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Council June 30th, 1980. FROM: Environmental: Protection Committee Ce etonKend —— The Committee met on Tuesday, June 24th, 1980 with Jack Nomes and John Vanderhoven of the S.P.C.A. and discussed the following items:- dy. - Additional Summer Patrols Mr. Homes agreed to arrange for summer patrols for the month of July and August. No specific arrangements were made for patrols this year although funds are available in our budget. The Committee recommends that the amount of $1,500.00 be set aside for additional Summer Patrols and that the S.P.C.A. be requested to set up a schedule as soon as possible with particular emphasis on evenings and weekends. 2. Licensing Legislation Certain improvoments in the Deg Licensing procedure have been suggest- ed from time to time by the S.P.C.A, The Committee has circulated a report from Mr. Homes in connection with life time dog licenses, similarly Council is aware of the proposed tattoo program as a means of control. The $.P.C.A. has pointed out that these new methods of control have not been possible due to the fact that the existing legislation does not permit the change, The Committee was informed that the City of North Vancouver has submitted a resolution to the U.B.C.M. Convention in September recommending changes in the legislation and Mr. Homes asked that Council members endorse this resolution at that time, 3. Co~operation of Pathological Incinerator Council is aware that the present incinerator operated by the S.P.C.A. ida financed by Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody. In the last few years the unit has been large enough and has had excess capacity and we have accepted pathological waste from the District of Maple Ridge on payment of a certain fee ‘per pound for disposal. The S.P.C.A. is growing concerned that the inerease in volume from doth our areas and Maple Ridge is bringing the usage up to capacity and the ultimate results will be a shortening of the life ‘of this particular unit. The S.P.C.A. has recommended that we reconsider this policy. eevee /2
