Mayor Jy: Campbell The City of Port Coquitlam 2272 McAllister Ave. Port Coquitlam, 5B.C. Dear Mayor Campbeli:~ I must admit to being shocked by the actions of our Council on Monday April 8, 1974. With no advice to us, the residents of the area, the subject of the closure of Langan Ave. was reintro- duced to Council for futher consideration barely three months after it had been passed by the previous Council. As most of the alderĀ» men ar very well aware this issue was fully decussed over a period of six months and the end result was passage of a motion of closure by a four to two majority with the mayor speaking for the motion. Even one of the opposing aldermen made a point of stating that he was in favour of the motion in principle but it did not go far enough. Now without reason the project is again being reviewed, Why? The report of the city planner was favourable to closing the road, The citizens of the area certainly indicated their desire by signing the petition presented to Council in July 1973. The public works committee itself admitted that something of this nature would be necessary for the long range planning of the area. In fact we have yet to hear one defendable reason why the street should not be closed. Does a motion passed by our city council mean so little? Must we now start another six month battle to obtain what any major developer could obtain with a couple of visits to Council? We have been very disappointed with the foot-dragging of the engineering department during this whole episode but we view with alarm this backtracking approach of Council and we trust that in bringing this matter back it is mainly for purposes of clarifice ation. We also trust that our representative will be permitted to speak on our behalf in any decussion before Council. 1745 Langan Ave. 94.2=0649 Spokesman for the Langan area residents.
