Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Laking suggested that the cases be well constructed, using an’ unbreakable type of glass, to ensure the safekeeping of the items that will be placed in them. Wrong Side of the Mayor Campbell then advised that a delegation of residents concerned y Tracks Action Comm. re Lougheed- j Hastings Pedes- trian crossing were in attendance with respect to the pedestrian crossing at the Lougheed Highway and Hastings Street, and on invitation a Mrs. Nicholls acted as spokesman for the group and pointed out that the traffic light is inadequate as there are no signs indicating that there is a school crosswalk ahead: Mrs. Nicholls requested that because of the volume of traffic on the Lougheed Highway, the crosswalk be parent~patrolled from 8:00 a.m. to 9: 00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. until the end of June, but that in September, the crosswalk be patrolled by a suitable person, such as an old- age pensioner. Mrs. Nicholls further advised that they had discussed the problem with the School Principal, Mr. G.M. Seaman, and a copy of a letter he subsequently wrote to School District No. 43 (Coquitlam), dated May 9th, 1974, was submitted. Alderman Traboulay suggested that a t Fequest be made to the Provincial Department of Highways for installation of flashing warning lights on either side of the crosswalk and that arrangements be made for a Commissionaire- -type of patrol as used at crosswalks in other areas of heavy traffic. The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam go on record as approving a patent-patrol at the Lougheed Highway- Hastings Street crosswalk until the end of June, 1974. Carried.
