Aiderman Thompson inquired whether consideration had been given to adapting the standards for facilities and usage to the City's particular needs, and Alderman Ranger advised that it had. Alderman Ranger then referred to acquisition of acreage in various areas of the City, and Alderman Traboulay, in draw- ing attention to the City's acknowledgement that park facilities were required in the Langan-Morgan area, pointed out that development thereof is slated for 1980; however, Aiderman Ranger advised that while the land, which the City now owns, can be reserved, development is contingent upon moneys being available therefore. In discussing the possible future expansion of Aggie Park, Alderman Laking suggested that, as the property in that area will be for high density use and very expensive, the City- owned land to the West along the Coquitlam River be utilized for park purposes or exchanged for other land suitable therefore, and Alderman Ranger agreed that this alternative would be worth pursuing. Alderman Traboulay referzed to a previous proposal for a major sports complex, either at the sewage lagoon site or Welcher Avenue dump, and he stated his concern that the expansion of Aggie Park may defeat the need for development of the former; however, Alderman Ranger pointed out that the Aggie grounds and similar facilities would constitute only a minor use. Alde.man Traboulay inquired whether utilization of School playing fields is still being pursued, and Alderman Ranger advised that it was; also, he peinted out that developers are being encouraged to provide recreational facilities in conjunction with projects either underway or proposed. Alderman Thompson stated his opposition to the proposed relocation of the baseball diamond at Cedar Drive Park to Nu West Park, and conversion of the former into a softball diamond, in view of the difficulty to obtain adequate baseball diamonds, and Alderman Traboulay agreed, pointing out the need also for concession facilities, such as those located at Cedar Drive and McLean Parks, during baseball tournaments. Alderman Thompson then drew attention to the need for having "unscheduled" ball parks avail- able to the public, and Alderman Laking stated he felt a proper facility for baseball and other sports should be constructed where it does not interfere with adjacent residents; however, Alderman Ranger pointed out that this type of facility will be considered when the Community Park con- cept is under study.
