THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C 0 UJ N C MEMORANDUM DEC 20 J9g9 B. Kirk, December 16, 1982 City Administrator F TO: -E. Peters., P. Eng., City Engineer FROM: SUBJECT: No Stopping zone at Irvine School - Public Works Committee, December Isth, 1982 RECOMMENDATION: That the east side of Wellington Street adjacent ta the Irvine School be posted as a No Stopping zone and that the curbing be painted yellow in this area. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: Attached is a letter from the School Safety Committee outlining five recommendations which were developed as a result of several meetings with the Principal of the school. The problem for this school is that it has a French Immersion course which requires that a number of parents drive their children to and from school. Although the east side of Wellington is posted as a No Parking zone, parents who find it difficult to find a place to stop close to the school do stop along this curb, arguing that they are not parking but simply stopping. This results in some hazard to children who may be crossing the road in this area. The first two recommendations in the attached letter Would be the responsibility of the City. The remaining three would be the responsibility of the School Board or Principal. The Committee recommends that the first two items be done but that the City not get involved in the request for development of a parking area at the south end of the school property.
