Terrace Review — Wednesday, September 26, 1990 B15. _ Kermodei Trading hosts exhibit and sale by local artist _by Betty Barton Kermodei Trading on Highway 16 in Terrace is presently hosting an art exhibit by local creator Lana Kilgren. The show runs until Sept. 29. Kilgren’s work consists of paper _ cut stencils, oil paintings, t-shirt painting and "mono-prinis". Kil- gren describes mono-prints as ‘individual, but with the same theme in the foreground and very different backgrounds." They are done with print-making ink. It’s her first exhibit, and a num- ber of the pieces on display have sold. Kilgren says she really appre- ciates the assistance provided by Kermodei Trading in this endea- vour. Brenda at Kermodei feels the display of local works is such a good idea that they’ll continue on with it. Their next exhibitor will be Mark Hart. Kilgren’s works bear unusual titles: "Booga Booga man with fish" and "China Sea" are two samples. Her one T-shirt on dis- play has a continuous design, front to back and down to'up. She also has on display a series of three oil paintings which depict her awakening interest. in and concem for the environment. "Forest Floor", depicts a lush rain forest; "Fire in the Sky” a forest fire; and "Death" the blackened remains of trees. The latter is painted on a piece of cardboard, Kilgren’s way of emphasizing the need to preserve the environment. Kilgren says she became aware of her longing for nature when she . was attending Langara College in Vancouver. There, she gained a- diploma in Fine Arts, having received an Art Scholarship during her senior year at Caledonia school in Terrace. Kilgren is presently taking a break from her studies while she works at Terrace Taco.
