In 1988, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, Marlene, the love of his life, tended to him until Sam needed extra care, That’s when he moved ta Ter- race View Lodge. _ Sam was born May 13, 1926 in Fort Cobern, Cutariao. He caine from a family of seven children - two girls and five boys, When Sam was three years old, his parents Joe and Mary Budisclich moved to Shell Jake, Saskatchewan, where Sam spent most of his younger years. ‘ When Sam was 26, he moved to B.C. and settled in Kennel Flats, There he worked at different logging camps. This is also where he met Marlene. Marlene’s mother owned a grocery store and gas station at Fairmount Hot Springs. Marlene met Sam while she was working in the store. Marlene’s mother already HERE ‘N THERE. YVONNE MOEN I MET SAM BUDISELICH and his lovely wife Marlene several years ago. Over the years it has al- ways been a pleasure to see Sam and Marlene at dif ferent eveuts around Terrace or on seniors’ bus trips out of town. Both Sam and Marlene . have always: been very friendly and happy people. They always have a friendly “hello” for everyone they micet. And now sadly, on July 14, 1998 Sam Budiselich to their move, they lived in their own home aon Simpson Avenue in Thornhill for 22 years. Marlene said she and Sam had many happy times to- gether. She said they often used to go hunting for grouse, Sam had a slingshot and Marlene had a ,22- calibre pistol. Marlene said she and Sam used ta go ice fishing a lot in- the winter. They also spent a lot of time at the Happy Gang Centre talking with friends. A service for Sam was had her cye on Sam for her daughter, so when Sam pulled in for gas one day, she sent Marlene out to serve him. And that is how Marlene and Sam first met. Five months later they were married in Idaho! Later they returned to B.C, and lived in logging camps at Kennel Flats until 1965 when the couple moved to Terrace. ; While living here, Sam worked on different con- struction jobs. He helped build the Thornhill highschool and the new Dudley Little bridge. Sam and Marlene had four children, Gail, Larry, Darcy and Becky. When the children got older, Marlene started work- ing as a custodian for School District 88. She worked until 1988 when she . had a stroke and had to start taking care of Sam. In 1990, Sam and Marlene made the move to live at the Tucks Senior Housing. Prior Church, followed dy a reception. vived by his wife, four chil- dren, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson. May Sam now rest in peace and may God give Marlene strength to live the rest of her life without him. And may God bless her for being the lovely person she is. Branch #73 BCOAPO report CONTRIBUTED MEMBERS OF BRANCH #73 of the B.C. Old Age Pensioners Organization met Oct. 8 in the Happy Gang Centre to discuss up coming events. In the absence of President, Hugh Power, the meeting was conducted by Mary Ann Dilley. The 45 members in attendance gave a warm welcome to two new members and one guest. ‘A minute of silence was observed in memory of Lou Gair, a long-time and faithful BCOAP member who passed away receitly. There are many activities occurring in the centre in Octo- ber and November. Saturday, Oct. 17 was monthly games night, The amiual Halloween Costume Party and potluck sup- per will take place Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. A new event — Scrabble games— will be held Tuesday afternoons from 2-4 p.m. There is alsa carpet bowling Wednesday afternoons and floor curling Thursday afternoons.
