FOR GOOD FOOD AND FINE SERVICE ..., letters fo the EDITOR Editor Terrace “Omineca” Herald To me, there is only one quest- jon related to booze to which the ordinary drinker may not have an answer, Can a helpless alcoholic ever become normal again? . Since there may still be a few desperate cases around who are able to read, I would like to as- sure them that it is possible. BUT — it is first necessary to reverse the conditions which first drive you to over-indulgence. This, in my case required 12 years. Per- haps, if you are young healthy and have security and aren’t pla- gZued by do-gooders, you may be able to do-it in less than 12 years, Meantime don’t be misled by these people who tell you they “quit it cold." They weren't help- Jess alcoholics in the first place and as a consequence, their advice is worth nothing. Next, the church can do a great deal to help you. The church can help you by keeping its misguided miniong to hell out of AA meet- ings and letting you work out the solutions to your own prabiems. Also — the police can help you. They can help you by minding their own business when you are doing your very best to mind your own business. Magistrates can help you by coming to the realization that “for your own good” philosophies are hest decided by the individual. Now, 1 don't want to hear any nonsense about drunken drivers, We are talking here about ‘help- less alcoholics’ and if you, the reader, knew anything about ‘help- less aleoholies’, you would know that, ag such, one cannot even own Re-Opening Soon... Art Curfman Editor Terrace “Omineca” Herald It was with much interest that I began to read the letter in the February 9 Herald by Mr. George Rose. I thought that here at long last, was someone who was going to put Mr. Art Curfman in his place, Mr. Curfman’s negative thoughts, prompted by his athiestie ideas make good reading for no one. However, I felt that Mr. Rose writes with the same pen as does Mr. Curfman and enlightened none, especially the younger gen- eration that he spoke of. Mr. Curfman made one of his many attacks on the church. Mr. Rose did the same thing when he} inferred that the church is noth. ing more than a “club” where people “get saved” when they take out membership. Salvation does not come from “membership,” and the church is a divine institution ordained of Ged.
