Mr. Little, who has long empha- sized the timber potential of the area, said cutting should be al- lowed. . He said the government should cut down the size of the 2,424,000 acre park, largest in the province, He told ‘the Legislature that it is used little for recreation pur: poses because there is no access, and said the government had done nothing ta develop the park. In his budget debate speech made last week, Mr. Little also called for the establishment in Skeena of a two year college, sim- ilar to that now operating in Pr. George, or a: subsidy for Northern students seeking higher education. He called for financial assistance for parochial schools in the pro- vince, particularly in the rural areas “where they are making an immense contribution to educa- tion." A plea for some solution to a “tax on freight charges” problem in Northern B.C. was put to the house in Mr. Little’s address. He stated that Northern B.C. residents are stil] paying a tax on freight charges despite concerted efforts to have this tax removed. In his summary, Mr. Little urg- ed the employment of women in B.C. bars and called for changes in the Liquor Act Which would permit music in cocktail lounges. At the moment it is illegal to hold a sing-song in a public bar and Pianos and recorded music are also forbidden. Lazelle Shopping Cent Med in ‘Terrace during February.
