Page 2 - "911" I would like to make the following recormmendations: (1) That the City encourage the GVRD "911" service to request improvements in their software which would enable offsite locations to be shown on their "911" dispatching terminals. Change our name field. Instead of the display reading "City of Port Coquitlam" we can change it to read "City of Port Coquitlam / & Civic Buildings" this would suggest to the dispatcher that there are multir . locations. The reason B.C. Tel hesitates tod: ais, is that: (a) the name field is what is printed in the phone directory and (b) the name field is the address that shows on our mail and billings. This suggestion was well received from the ambulance and police services. Anything that helps them will help us. (3) Invite a member of the B.C. Ambulaice Service to speak with our staff. "911" dispatchers are trained to listen, they need to hear the right words and respond to what they are being told. "911" personnel agree that it would be extremely beneficial for our staff to have a training session on how to use "911" and what to do in an emergency. An ambulance paxamedic will come and clarify exactly what happens when you dial "911", why they ask the questions that they do, and explain the importance of your role as the "caller". It will also give staff an opportunity to ask questions and become aware of many misconceptions we all have as to what happens when you dial "911". : | The address display is beneficial but the "words" you use are second to none.
