A}2- The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, August 20, 2003 Ex-mayor joins Hawkair board FORMER VANCOUVER mayor Philip Owen is one of Iwo new appointments to Hawkair’s board of directors, the Terrace-based passenger airline announced last week, ; Owen, who served as mayor from 1993 to 2002, gained prominence for his progressive approach to the drug problem in Vancouver's notorious downtown east side. Hawkair has also appointed the former senior vice president of Canada 3000 Airlines — which was Canada’s second-largest airline when it declared bankruptcy in November 2001 - to its board. David Hardouin was pres- ident of an associated company, Canada 3000 Holidays. The board announcements follow a move by Hawkair to raise $4.5 million by selling private shares in order to buy more aircraft and expand operations. Owen and Hardouin join Hawkair owners and board members Rod Hayward, David Menzies and David Re- dekop as beard directors. The company has also hired a new vice president of sales to assist with the company’s plans for expansion, Simon Shepard, who has worked for several airlines including Irish Airlines, British West Indian Airlines, and China Airlines where he was a Canadian-based sales manager, founded a retail travel consortium that is now known as Advantage Travel. Finning not finished here FINNING HAS put its Hwy16 land and building up for sale, but isn’t leaving town, says a company official. “We just don’t need as much space,” said Joanne Miller of the decision to sell the five-acre complex which contains a 26,000 square foot space. “Pinning has had a long standing presence in Terrace, and will continue to do so. Bul there is a weakening economy and we need to scale back our operations. The heavy equipment sales and service company has 12 employees in Terrace.
