Think about this: When we
peel an orange, we toss the peel-
ings into the trash can, and sud-
denly it’s not just orange peel,
it’s garbage. One minute it’s a
healthy, fragrant fruit shell, and

then it becomes something that -

nobody wants to touch, dogs
_will sniff at, and that somebody
has to dump.

system of ridding oneself of
life’s excess waste, and having it
removed, never to be seen again.

snub any excess. They would on-
ly accept specified packaging of
certain types of garbage in
limited quantities. An extra bot-
tle or milk carton leaning next to’
the trash can was tossed aside.

I was surprised at the lax at-
titude of my own garbage collec-
tors. These guys were mellow.

leave. It was like garbage rape; I.

Soon, the truck drove’ up and
without hesitation, the men

-cleared it all away, gently: placed

the trash cans upside down, and.
the they did something I’ll never
forget. . They. waved to. my
children. I couldn’t believe it.
These guys were nice; they
respected my garbage. They
were professionals. And to me,
that's a big deal.

“On a recent Sunday 57 local people with energy to burn turned out. for the Terrace Workout for Heart, a two-hour
fund-raising exercise extravaganza sponsored by the Terrace chapter of the Canadian Heart Foundation. Chapter
president Karen Enriquez sald that after the music stopped in the Skeena junior secondary school gym the dedicated
group had raised a total of $3,300 In pledges for heart research. Despite having. fewer participants than last year's
event, Enriquez said, this year's Workout collected slightly more in pledge money.
