Canpower gives
hockey players
a skating edge

MORE THAN 55 skaters registered for
Canpower sessions in Terrace for the win-
ter months, Canpower has proven ta be a
very papular sport,

Offered through the Terrace Figure
Skating Club, Canpower is a sport for
hockey and ringette. players. who. want to
develop their onsice speed and agility.

Skaters aged five and up, work their
way through ‘three ‘skill-building levels
from stopping: on a dime to skulling:
crossovers, turning, skating backwards,
speed and posture. _

Players never actually work wilh a
puck but carry sticks — common to both

ringette and hockey - to inerease man-
ceuvrability on the ice,

All coaches are fully qualified and
must lake a’ Canpower instructive course
to be able to teach. ,

Terrace’s coaches both recently upgra-

ded their skills. this summer in Vancouver... °

The next round of Canpower lessons
starts'in January’ and all skaters must re-
gister for an 10-session package to’ pass
Canpower Canada’s predetermined guide-
lines, ae ;

Watch closely for registration in De-
cember. Spaces: are limited and usually
fill quickly.

Employment and Training Program's

The Skeena Native Development Society {SNDS], in part-
nership with Human Resources Development Canada
(HRDC), provides employment and Iraining services to First
nations and Inuit Peeple resident in our service area.
SNOS services twenty-five villages and five urban centers.

We offer advisory, planning, and funding-services on an
individual basis for skills and job market training and
retraining, apprenticeship training, and ‘empleyment readi-
ness for the private ‘and.public sector. These services ara
‘offered fo our ‘clientele ‘in both the’ urban: andthe’ rural
areas.
